Bargaining Power

Bargaining power is the ability of a party in an exchange to influence price, terms, quality, or other conditions, making it a central concept in economics, business strategy, and marketing. It arises from leverage such as market concentration, access to alternatives, switching costs, product differentiation, information, and transaction urgency; buyers gain strength when they can compare suppliers or delay purchases, while sellers gain strength when offerings are scarce or distinctive. In marketing, analyzing bargaining power helps organizations assess channel relationships, negotiate with suppliers and distributors, set pricing strategies, protect margins, and design stronger customer value propositions.
