Lung Qi Deficiency

Lung Qi Deficiency is a diagnostic pattern in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) describing weakened Lung Qi, the functional energy associated with respiration, voice, and the body’s protective defenses. In TCM theory, insufficient Lung Qi may impair the Lung’s ability to move and regulate breath and fluids, leading to symptoms such as shortness of breath, a soft voice, fatigue, frequent colds, and spontaneous sweating. Practitioners assess this pattern through symptom history, observation of the tongue, and pulse examination rather than a single laboratory test. Treatment planning may incorporate acupuncture, herbal formulas, breathing practices, and lifestyle adjustments, while biomedical evaluation remains important for persistent or serious respiratory symptoms.
