Postoperative Rehabilitation

Postoperative rehabilitation is the structured process of restoring movement, strength, function, and independence after surgery. It typically progresses from pain and swelling control to guided mobility, therapeutic exercise, and task-specific training, with activities adjusted to tissue healing, surgical restrictions, and individual recovery. Clinicians assess function and monitor responses to help prevent complications, rebuild physical capacity, and support safe return to daily activities, work, or sport. In medicine, postoperative rehabilitation is an important component of recovery because coordinated, patient-centered care can improve functional outcomes and help identify barriers that require changes in treatment.

This article reports the development of a neuro-rehabilitation approach, "constraint-induced sound therapy (CIST)" for sudden sensorineural hearing loss. The aim of CIST is to prevent maladaptive cortical reorganization by using an enriched acoustic environment. CIST represents a safe, easy, inexpensive, and effective approach to treat sudden sensorineural hearing loss.
