Whole Specimen Sectioning

Whole specimen sectioning is a histological technique that cuts an intact biological specimen into serial thin sections for microscopic analysis, preserving spatial relationships across tissues and anatomical regions. The process typically involves fixation, dehydration, embedding in a supportive medium, sectioning with a microtome or related instrument, and staining or labeling sections for imaging and reconstruction. In neuroscience, whole specimen sectioning can reveal brain architecture, neural pathways, lesion distribution, and cell or molecular patterns across an intact nervous system, supporting studies of development, neuroanatomy, disease models, and treatment effects.

Isolating electrical and thermal effects on electrically assisted deformation (EAD) is very difficult using macroscopic samples. Metallic sample micro- and nanostructures together with a custom test procedure have been developed to evaluate the impact of applied current on the formation without joule heating and evolution of dislocations on these samples.
