Case-control Study

A case-control study is an observational research design that compares individuals with a specified outcome or disease (cases) to similar individuals without it (controls) to identify differences in prior exposures. Researchers typically select participants based on outcome status, assess past exposure through records, interviews, or biological measurements, and use statistical methods such as odds ratios to estimate associations while accounting for confounding and matching factors. This design is especially efficient for studying rare diseases or outcomes and conditions with long latency periods. Although it can reveal important risk factors, it is vulnerable to selection and recall bias and generally cannot establish causation on its own.

Types of Biopharmaceutical Studies: Controlled and Non-Controlled Approaches

2024

Biopharmaceutical studies constitute a vital field aiming to enhance drug delivery methods and refine therapeutic approaches, drawing upon diverse interdisciplinary knowledge. In research methodologies, the choice between controlled and non-controlled studies significantly influences the study's reliability and accuracy. Non-controlled studies, commonly employed for initial exploration, lack a control group, rendering them susceptible to biases and external influences. In contrast, controlled...

WheelCon is a novel, free and open-source platform to design video games that noninvasively simulates mountain biking down a steep, twisting, bumpy trail. It contains components presenting in human sensorimotor control (delay, quantization, noise, disturbance, and multiple feedback loops) and allows researchers to study the layered architecture in sensorimotor control.
