I gruppi tubulari più vicini al RE

costituiscono la rete del cis-Golgi,

la prima parte in cui
entrano proteine e lipidi.

Le molecole possono muoversi

attraverso i segmenti intermedi,

chiamati cisterne, a
partire dalla cisterna cis.

Quando lasciano il Reticolo Endoplasmico (ER), le proteine opportunamente piegate e assemblate vengono confezionate in modo selettivo in vescicole. Queste vesciche vengono trasportate da proteine motorie a base di microtubuli e si fondono insieme per formare ammassi tubolari vescicolari, arrivando successivamente all'apparato Golgi, un organello endomembranario eucariotico che spesso ha un caratteristico aspetto simile a un nastro.

L'apparato Golgi è un'importante stazione di smistamento e spedizione per i prodotti del ER. Le vesciche appena arrivate entrano nella faccia del Golgi, il lato rivolto verso il ER, e vengono trasportate attraverso una collezione di cisterne a forma di pancake (dischi), racchiuse in membrana. Ogni cisterna contiene composizioni uniche di enzimi ed esegue specifiche modifiche proteiche. Man mano che le proteine progrediscono attraverso la rete cis Golgi, alcune sono fosforilate e subiscono la rimozione di alcune modifiche di carboidrati che sono state aggiunte nel ER. Le proteine si muovono poi attraverso la cisterna mediale, dove possono essere glicosilate per formare le coliproteine. Dopo la modifica nella trans cisterna, alle proteine vengono dati tag (marature) che definiscono la loro destinazione cellulare.

A seconda dei tag molecolari, le proteine vengono confezionate in vesciche e trafficate in particolari posizioni cellulari, tra cui il lisosoma e la membrana plasmatica. Marcatori specifici sulle membrane di queste vesciche permettono loro di attraccare nella posizione cellulare appropriata. Inoltre, i fosfolipidi a membrana possono essere modificati nel Golgi e il Golgi può produrre e secernere alcuni polisaccaridi.

È interessante notare che il Golgi si smonta completamente e si rimonta durante la divisione cellulare. In precedenza, l'apparato Golgi era inteso come una struttura statica attraverso la quale le proteine si muovevano progressivamente. The Golgi apparatus sorts and modifies proteins after they leave the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Properly folded and assembled proteins are packaged into vesicles, or small membrane sacs, and moved by microtubule-based motor proteins. These vesicles can fuse into vesicular tubular clusters before reaching the Golgi, which often looks like a ribbon-shaped organelle in eukaryotic cells.

Vesicles enter the cis face of the Golgi, the side facing the ER. They pass through a set of pancake-shaped cisternae, which are membrane-enclosed compartments. Each cisterna contains a different group of enzymes, so each step can change the proteins in a specific way.

As proteins move through the cis Golgi network, some are phosphorylated, meaning a phosphate group is added. They can also lose certain carbohydrate modifications that were added in the ER. In the medial cisterna, proteins may be glycosylated, which means sugars are added to form glycoproteins.

After they reach the trans cisterna, proteins receive tags that help determine where they go in the cell. Based on these molecular tags, they are packed into new vesicles and sent to places such as the lysosome or the plasma membrane. Markers on the vesicle membranes help them dock at the correct destination.

The Golgi also changes membrane phospholipids and can make and secrete some polysaccharides. During cell division, the Golgi fully disassembles and then reassembles. Scientists once thought of it as a static structure, but it is now seen as a dynamic set of cisternae that moves from the cis to the trans face as a unit.
