Newton's Second Law

Considera una signora che spinge un carrello dei bagagli mentre si muove. La forza esterna esercitata da lei accelera il carrello nella direzione della forza applicata.

Compilando questi, otteniamo la seconda legge del moto di Newton, che afferma che un oggetto accelera proporzionalmente e nella direzione della forza esterna netta e inversamente alla sua massa.

La seconda legge di Newton è strettamente legata alla sua prima legge del movimento. Essa mostra matematicamente la relazione causa-effetto tra la forza e i cambiamenti nel movimento. La seconda legge di Newton è quantitativa ed è ampiamente usata per calcolare cosa succede in situazioni che coinvolgono una forza. Tutte le forze esterne agiscono su un sistema e si sommano insieme per produrre una forza netta Fnet. Una forza esterna netta più ampia produce una maggiore accelerazione. Quest'accelerazione è direttamente proporzionale e avviene nella stessa direzione della forza netta esterna che agisce su un sistema.

Inoltre, è ragionevole pensare che l'accelerazione sia inversamente proporzionale alla massa del sistema. In altre parole, Maggiore è la massa (l'inerzia), minore è l'accelerazione prodotta da una certa forza. Newton ha anche delineato la sua seconda legge in termini di quantità di moto: la velocità istantanea in cui la quantità di moto di un corpo cambia è uguale alla forza netta che agisce sul corpo.

Newton's second law connects net force, mass, and acceleration. It explains how an object's motion changes when external forces act on it. The law gives a clear cause-and-effect link that can be used to make calculations.

All external forces on a system are added together to find the net force, or F net. A larger net external force produces a larger acceleration. The acceleration points in the same direction as the net force.

Mass also affects the result. A larger mass means more inertia, so the same force produces a smaller acceleration. Experiments show that acceleration is directly proportional to net external force and inversely proportional to mass.

Taken together, these relationships form Newton's second law. The acceleration of a system is directly proportional to, and in the same direction as, the net external force acting on it, and inversely proportional to its mass. In this way, the law describes how a body responds mechanically to its environment.

Newton also expressed the law in terms of momentum. Momentum is a measure of motion, and its instantaneous rate of change equals the net force acting on the body. This makes Newton's second law useful for understanding and predicting motion in force-based situations.
