Bernoulli's Equation

Immaginate un fluido incomprimibile che passa attraverso un tubo. Se l'area della sezione trasversale del tubo si restringe in una particolare regione, il flusso del fluido accelera.

Lo stesso avviene quando due macchine si incrociano ad un'alta velocità relativa. La ragione è che la pressione del fluido cala nella regione in cui esso accelera. Dal momento che l'aria tra i treni o le macchine aumenta di velocità, la sua pressione si riduce. La pressione sulle parti esterne dei veicoli è ancora al pressione atmosferica, mentre la differenza di pressione risultante crea un forza netta sui veicoli verso l'interno.

L'equazione di Bernoulli descrive la relazione tra la pressione dei fluidi e la loro velocità. Prende il nome da David Bernoulli (1700 – 1782), il quale pubblicò i suoi studi sul moto dei fluidi nel libro Hydrodinamica (1738). L'equazione è dedotta attraverso l'applicazione del principio di conservazione dell'energia ad un flusso laminare stabile, privo di attrito. I tre termini di pressione nell'equazione di Bernoulli sono la pressione del fluido, l'energia cinetica del fluido per unità di volume, e l'energia potenziale gravitazionale per unità di volume. Gli ultimi due hanno le dimensioni della pressione e sono anche chiamati densità di energia cinetica e gravitazionale. Bernoulli's equation connects fluid pressure with fluid speed. It helps explain why moving fluids can create pressure changes in everyday situations. One example is when two trains pass each other quickly and seem to pull inward. The same effect can happen when two cars pass each other at high speed.

As the air between the trains or cars speeds up, its pressure drops. The air on the outside stays at atmospheric pressure. That pressure difference creates a net inward force on the vehicles. Bernoulli's equation describes this link between faster flow and lower pressure.

The equation is named after David Bernoulli, who published his work on fluid motion in Hydrodynamica in 1738. It comes from applying conservation of energy to a fluid flow that is frictionless, steady, and laminar. Laminar flow means the fluid moves in smooth layers. The equation is an ideal model, but it still fits many real-life situations well enough to help analyze them.

Bernoulli's equation includes three pressure terms. These are fluid pressure, kinetic energy per unit volume, and gravitational potential energy per unit volume. The last two terms have the same dimensions as pressure, so they are also called kinetic and gravitational energy densities. The equation says the total pressure, including these energy densities, stays constant as the fluid flows.
