All'aumentare della coppia, la sollecitazione massima raggiunge un valore di saturazione all'inizio dello snervamento. Sostituendo questo valore di saturazione, è possibile calcolare la coppia elastica massima corrispondente, per la quale la deformazione rimane completamente elastica.
Sostituendo J/c, esprime la coppia in termini di distanza radiale e di sollecitazione massima.
All'aumentare della coppia ulteriormente, si sviluppa una regione plastica nell'albero attorno a un nucleo elastico di raggio ρY.
Nella regione plastica, la sollecitazione è uniformemente uguale a τY, mentre nel nucleo elastico, la sollecitazione varia linearmente con ρ.
Aumentando ulteriormente la coppia, la regione plastica si espande fino a quando la deformazione è interamente plastica.
La coppia totale nell'albero circolare pieno può essere espressa come sovrapposizione di coppie nelle regioni elastiche e plastiche.
Semplificando ulteriormente l'equazione e sostituendo ρY man mano che si avvicina allo zero, è possibile determinare il valore limite della coppia plastica, corrispondente a una deformazione interamente plastica.

All'aumentare della coppia sull'albero, si sviluppa la regione plastica, che circonda il nucleo elastico interno, caratterizzata da un livello di sollecitazione costante nell'area plastica e una distribuzione lineare delle sollecitazioni, all'interno del nucleo elastico. Con il continuo aumento della coppia, la zona plastica si estende, diminuendo il nucleo elastico, fino a quando la deformazione lungo l'albero diventa interamente plastica.

La coppia totale esercitata sull'albero, è la somma delle coppie associate alle regioni di deformazione elastica e plastica. Mediante un'ulteriore analisi e semplificazione, concentrandosi sull'espansione della regione plastica, è possibile calcolare la coppia plastica ultima. La coppia plastica finale è la coppia massima che l'albero può sopportare prima di soccombere alla completa deformazione plastica, perdendo completamente la sua forma originale.

Circular shafts under torsion show a clear change from elastic behavior to plastic deformation as torque increases. In the elastic limit, stress rises in direct proportion to the distance from the shaft’s center. The outer material carries the highest stress first, and the shaft can still return to its original shape.

At a critical stress level, the shaft begins to yield. This marks the maximum torque the shaft can carry without permanent deformation. Beyond this point, a plastic region forms near the outside of the shaft, while an inner elastic core remains. In the plastic area, stress stays constant, but the elastic core still follows a linear stress pattern.

As torque keeps increasing, the plastic zone grows and the elastic core shrinks. The shaft eventually becomes fully plastic across its cross section. The total torque at any stage comes from both the elastic and plastic parts together. By examining how the plastic region expands, it is possible to calculate the ultimate plastic torque, which is the maximum torque the shaft can withstand before it loses its original form completely.
