I sistemi elettromeccanici rappresentano una miscela unica di componenti elettrici e meccanici che si integrano perfettamente.
Un motore a corrente continua è un'unità che trasforma la tensione in spostamento angolare, producendo un risultato meccanico da un ingresso elettrico.
Quando la corrente scorre nel circuito dell'armatura posto all'interno del campo magnetico, subisce una forza, che porta alla coppia che fa ruotare il rotore.
Poiché l'armatura trasporta corrente mentre ruota in un campo magnetico, la sua tensione diventa proporzionale alla velocità.
L'applicazione di un'equazione di loop al circuito di armatura trasformata di Laplace rivela una correlazione tra la corrente di armatura, la tensione di armatura applicata e la f.e.m. posteriore.
La coppia del motore è proporzionale alla corrente dell'indotto, con la costante di proporzionalità che dipende dalle caratteristiche del motore e del campo magnetico.
La coppia è correlata all'inerzia e allo smorzamento viscoso dell'armatura.
L'equazione della coppia viene prima riscritta per esprimerla in termini di posizione angolare dell'albero motore.
In seguito, si presume che l'induttanza dell'armatura sia considerevolmente più piccola della resistenza dell'armatura.

Un componente chiave del motore a corrente continua è l'indotto, un circuito rotante posizionato all'interno di un campo magnetico. Quando una corrente elettrica passa attraverso l'indotto, incontra una forza dovuta all'interazione con il campo magnetico, producendo una coppia. Questa coppia avvia la rotazione del rotore, convertendo così l'energia elettrica in movimento meccanico. La tensione indotta nell'indotto è direttamente proporzionale alla sua velocità, un fenomeno noto come forza controelettromotrice (EMF).

Per analizzare il comportamento di un motore a corrente continua, si applicano i principi elettrici al circuito dell'indotto. Utilizzando un'equazione di loop e trasformandola tramite il metodo di Laplace, possiamo chiarire la relazione tra la corrente dell'indotto (i_a), la tensione applicata all'indotto (V_a) e l'EMF controcorrente (E_b). Nel dominio s, la coppia (T) che viene prodotta dal motore è direttamente proporzionale alla corrente dell'indotto, descritta da:

In questo caso, k_t è la costante di coppia. Questa coppia può anche essere scritta in termini di inerzia (J) del rotore:

DC motor modeling is a key part of electromechanical systems. These systems combine electrical parts and mechanical parts to produce a useful output. A DC motor is one common example because it turns electrical energy into mechanical motion. It is used in many places, from simple fans to complex robotic mechanisms.

Inside the DC motor, the armature is a rotating circuit placed in a magnetic field. When current flows through the armature, it experiences a force from the magnetic field. That force creates torque, which starts the rotor spinning. As the motor turns, it also produces a voltage in the armature that rises with speed. This voltage is called back electromotive force, or back EMF.

To study how the motor behaves, electrical principles are applied to the armature circuit. A loop equation is written for the armature current, the applied armature voltage, and the back EMF. The equation can then be transformed with the Laplace method to help show the motor response in the s domain. This makes it easier to relate the input voltage to the motor’s electrical and mechanical behavior.

The torque produced by the motor is directly proportional to the armature current in the s domain. The torque constant, k_t, sets that relationship. Torque can also be written in terms of the rotor inertia, J, and the motion of the motor shaft. By expressing the torque through the angular position, θ, and simplifying the result, a transfer function can be derived. When armature inductance is assumed to be negligible compared with armature resistance, the DC motor transfer function becomes simpler and shows how electrical input leads to mechanical output.
