Una sega elettrica dotata di una lama diamantata raffreddata ad acqua viene utilizzata anche per tagliare i mattoni in forme più complesse con maggiore precisione.
I mattoni tagliati a dimensioni specifiche sono indicati come pipistrelli.
Ad esempio, un mattone che è la metà della sua lunghezza originale è chiamato mezzo pipistrello, mentre uno che è tre quarti della sua lunghezza è noto come pipistrello dei tre quarti.
I chiudi regina sono mattoni che corrispondono alla lunghezza e allo spessore dei mattoni standard ma hanno la metà della larghezza.
I chiudi re sono mattoni a forma di mattoni in modo tale che un'estremità sia tagliata a metà della larghezza, creando un angolo inclinato dal punto medio di due bordi adiacenti.
Allo stesso modo, anche altre forme di mattoni tagliati, come il chiudibile smussato, il quarto di pipistrello e il chiudi obliquo, vengono tagliati a seconda delle loro esigenze.

I tipi speciali di mattoni tagliati includono “mezzi coltelli” e “mezzo falso”. I “mezzi coltelli” hanno la stessa lunghezza e spessore dei mattoni standard ma metà della larghezza. Sono comunemente utilizzati nel modello di messa in posa inglese. I “mezzo falso” sono sagomati con un'estremità tagliata a metà della larghezza, creando un angolo inclinato dal punto medio di due bordi adiacenti. Questo tipo è utilizzato anche in modelli di messa in posa specifici.

Altre forme di mattoni tagliati, come il “mezzo coltello smussato”, il “quarto di mattone” e il "mattone a taglio obliquo", sono adattati a specifiche esigenze di costruzione.
