Bricks are masonry units made from fired clay in various shapes, sizes, and colors.
Conventionally, bricks were made in a simple wooden mold, producing a fixed number of bricks at a single time.
Local clays and shales are used to manufacture bricks. The raw material is subjected to crushing, grinding, and screening for fine consistency.
This material is then mixed with water to create a pliable clay, and it is shaped into bricks either by a soft mud process, a dry-press process, or a stiff mud process.
Once the raw clay is shaped into bricks, they are air dried and exposed to high temperatures in kilns at eighteen hundred to twenty four hundred degrees Fahrenheit to prepare the bricks for construction use.
The exposure duration of bricks in the kilns is between 40 and 150 hours. Following this, controlled cooling measures are implemented to prevent thermal cracking in the bricks.
The temperature in the kiln affects the size and color of the bricks &#8212; higher temperatures result in more shrinkage and darker bricks.

Despite the industrialization of brickmaking, the process still honors the material&#39;s tradition, adapting to the demands of modern construction while retaining the tactile and aesthetic qualities that have made bricks a beloved element in architecture.

Bricks are made from fired clay and come in many shapes, sizes, and colors. They are a basic building material used in construction. The brickmaking process begins with local clay or shale, which is crushed, ground, and screened to make a fine material.

Next, the refined clay is mixed with water to form a workable mass. That mixture can be shaped in three main ways: soft mud, dry press, or stiff mud. Soft mud bricks are made in molds with high moisture content. They may be water-struck or sand-struck, depending on how the mold is prepared. These methods can give the finished brick a smooth or matte surface.

The dry press method is used for clays that shrink too much during drying. It uses very little water and high pressure in molds. The stiff mud process is the most common and most cost-effective method. It uses clay with moderate water content and pushes it through a die. This method can also add surface texture or color before the bricks are fired.
