Lateral Flow Strip

Lateral flow strips are paper-based diagnostic devices that rapidly detect target molecules in liquid samples without specialized laboratory equipment. Capillary action moves the sample through a conjugate pad containing labeled recognition reagents and across a porous membrane, where target binding generates a visible test line while a control line confirms proper flow. In biochemistry, antibodies, aptamers, or other affinity reagents can recognize proteins, hormones, nucleic acids, metabolites, or pathogens through sandwich or competitive formats. These strips enable portable, low-cost testing for point-of-care diagnostics, environmental monitoring, food safety, and research applications.

A rapid and accurate point-of-care test for invasive pulmonary aspergillosis is presented. It takes advantage of lateral-flow technology using a specific monoclonal antibody that binds to an Aspergillus antigen secreted during pulmonary infections. The assay is compatible with serum and brochoalveolar lavage and represents a novel adjunct test for disease diagnosis.

Voltammetry: Stripping Methods

2024

Anodic Stripping Voltammetry (ASV), Cathodic Stripping Voltammetry (CSV), and Adsorptive Stripping Voltammetry (AdSV) are electrochemical techniques used to determine trace amounts of analytes in solution. These methods involve applying a potential to an electrode and measuring the resulting current. Anodic Stripping Voltammetry (ASV) ASV is used to determine metals and metalloids at trace levels. It involves two steps: deposition and stripping. First, a negative potential is applied to the...

Here, we describe a protocol for the preparation of quantum dot nanobeads (QDNB) and the detection of disease biomarkers using QDNB-based lateral flow immunoassay strips. The test results can be qualitatively assessed under UV light illumination and quantitatively measured using a fluorescent strip reader within 15 min.
