Landing Pad Sequence

A landing pad sequence is a pre-engineered DNA element that creates a defined genomic site for inserting and expressing genetic cargo, enabling more predictable bioengineering than random integration. It typically contains specialized recombination sites, such as attP or lox sequences, that pair with a matching recombinase to replace or insert a transgene at the designated locus. By standardizing genomic position and reducing variation caused by surrounding chromatin, landing pads support controlled comparisons of promoters, regulatory elements, and protein variants. They are used in synthetic biology, cell-line engineering, gene regulation studies, and the development of stable platforms for screening and therapeutic research.

The Colonization of Land

2026

Changes in the environment of the early Earth drove the evolution of organisms. As prokaryotic organisms in the oceans began to photosynthesize, they produced oxygen. Eventually, oxygen saturated the oceans and entered the air, resulting in an increase in atmospheric oxygen concentration, known as the oxygen revolution approximately 2.3 billion years ago. Therefore, organisms that could use oxygen for cellular respiration had an advantage. More than 1.5 years ago, eukaryotic cells and...

2016

We describe an ovarian fad pad transplantation assay suitable for studies of normal and transformed epithelia of the female reproductive tract. The mouse fat pad allows transplantation of large tissue fragments, is easily accessible for surgery and imaging, and provides the most favorable native environment for tissues of Müllerian origin.

Decellularizing Mammary Fat Pads: Deriving Extracellular Matrix Hydrogels from Mammary Fat Pads

Fat pad aspiration is a preferred, minimally invasive, and low cost approach as compared to other methods to detect amyloid for diagnosis of systemic amyloidosis. This video article demonstrates a procedural outline for performing fat pad aspiration with appropriate processing of the specimen for the optimal diagnostic outcome.
