Mononuclear Cells Isolation

Mononuclear cell isolation is a laboratory method used to separate cells with a single, non-lobed nucleus, such as lymphocytes and monocytes, from whole blood or other biological samples. The procedure commonly relies on density-gradient centrifugation, in which layered sample components migrate at different rates during spinning and mononuclear cells collect at the interface between the plasma and density medium. After this fraction is removed and washed, the cells can be counted, characterized, cultured, or used in downstream assays. The technique supports immunology, hematology, infection research, and studies of cellular responses to drugs or other experimental conditions.
