Particle Emission

Particle emission is the release of atoms, ions, electrons, or nuclear particles from a material, often producing measurable changes in its composition and energy. In nuclear chemistry, emission occurs when an unstable nucleus transforms into a more stable state by releasing alpha particles, beta particles, neutrons, or associated radiation; conservation of mass, charge, and energy governs the process. The identity, energy, and intensity of emitted particles can reveal nuclear structure and decay pathways. These measurements support radiation detection, isotope identification, nuclear reaction studies, medical diagnostics and treatment, and evaluation of environmental or occupational exposure.

Emission Spectra

2020

When solids, liquids, or condensed gases are heated sufficiently, they radiate some of the excess energy as light. Photons produced in this manner have a range of energies, and thereby produce a continuous spectrum in which an unbroken series of wavelengths is present. In contrast to continuous spectra, light can also occur as discrete or line spectra having very narrow linewidths interspersed throughout the spectral regions. Exciting a gas at low partial pressure using an electrical current,...

This protocol presents a method to analyze the emission of 3D printing pens. Particle concentration and particle size distribution of the released particle is measured. Released particles are further analyzed with transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Metal content in filaments is quantified by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).

Metal Flame Emission - Concepts

Metal Flame Emission Flame testing is an analytical technique where a sample is placed in a flame, and the characteristic flame color is used to identify the substance. Each element has a characteristic light emission when placed into a flame, meaning each element produces a unique color. This phenomenon is used in fireworks displays, where the color of the fireworks corresponds to a specific characteristic of a metal. The emission of colored light from a burning sample is the direct result of...
