Stacking Fault

A stacking fault is a planar crystallographic defect in which the normal sequence of atomic layers is locally interrupted, creating a boundary within an otherwise ordered crystal. In close-packed structures, such as face-centered cubic metals, the fault forms when layers shift or a partial dislocation changes the expected stacking sequence, producing intrinsic or extrinsic configurations with distinct local bonding and energy. In chemistry and materials research, stacking faults help explain variations in crystal stability, phase transformation, plastic deformation, diffraction patterns, and catalytic or electronic behavior. Characterizing these defects links atomic-scale structure to the macroscopic properties of crystalline solids.

When analyzing a single line-to-ground fault from phase A to ground at a three-phase bus, it is important to consider the fault impedance. This impedance is zero for a bolted fault, equal to the arc impedance for an arcing fault, and represents the total fault impedance for a transmission-line insulator flashover. To derive sequence and phase currents, fault conditions are translated from the phase domain to the sequence domain. For line-to-line faults occurring between phases B and C, the...

Scalable engineered blood vessels would improve clinical applicability. Using easily sizable 3D-printed guides, rings of vascular smooth muscle were created and stacked into a tubular form, forming a vascular graft. Grafts can be sized to meet the range of human coronary artery dimensions by simply changing the 3D-printed guide size.

Here we provide a detailed procedure for large-scale production of research-grade AAV vectors using adherent HEK 293 cells grown in cell stacks and affinity chromatography purification. This protocol consistently yields >1 x 1013 vector genomes/mL, providing vector quantities appropriate for large animal studies.

Design and Application of a Fault Detection Method Based on Adaptive Filters and Rotational Speed Estimation for an Electro-Hydrostatic Actuator

2022

In this paper, an adaptive filter based on a normalized least mean square (NLMS) algorithm and a rotational speed estimation method are introduced to detect the electrical and hydraulic faults of the electro-hydrostatic actuator (EHA). The efficacy and feasibility of the aforementioned methods are verified through simulations and experiments.
