Rapid Sequence Induction

Rapid Sequence Induction (RSI) is an airway-management technique that rapidly transitions a patient from consciousness to endotracheal intubation while minimizing the risk of pulmonary aspiration. It typically combines preoxygenation with intravenous administration of an induction agent and a fast-acting neuromuscular blocker, followed by prompt laryngoscopy and tube placement, often limiting ventilation before the airway is secured. Used in emergency medicine, anesthesia, and critical care, RSI is particularly important for patients with a full stomach, impaired airway reflexes, or urgent respiratory failure. Appropriate preparation, drug selection, monitoring, and backup airway planning help improve intubation success and patient safety.

Source: Yong P. Chen, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, College of Science, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN This experiment will use inductive coils to demonstrate the concept of inductor and inductance. Magnetic induction will be demonstrated using a rod magnet inserted into or extracted away from the core of a coil to induce a transient electromotive force (emf) voltage in the coil, measured by a voltmeter. This experiment will also demonstrate the mutual inductance between...

Here, we present a rapid and cost-effective workflow for characterizing rabies virus (RABV) genomes using nanopore technology. The workflow is intended to support genomics-informed surveillance at a local level, providing information on circulating RABV lineages and their placement within regional phylogenies to guide rabies control measures.

Source: Kay Stewart, RVT, RLATG, CMAR; Valerie A. Schroeder, RVT, RLATG. University of Notre Dame, IN The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals ("The Guide") states that pain assessment and alleviation are integral components of the veterinary care of laboratory animals. The definition of anesthesia is the loss of feeling or sensation. It is a dynamic event involving changes in anesthetic depth with respect to an animal's metabolism, surgical stimulation, or variations in the...

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. The objectives of this experiment are to find the equivalent circuit parameters of a three-phase induction motor using the per-phase equivalent circuit and tests similar to those used in transformer characterization. In electrical engineering, an equivalent circuit (or theoretical circuit) can be determined for a given system. The equivalent circuit retains all characteristics of the original system,...
