Virus Transmission Assay

A virus transmission assay is an experimental method used to measure how efficiently infectious virus moves from an infected source to susceptible target cells, making it essential for studying infection and immune control. Typically, researchers expose recipient cells to virus, infected-cell material, or cell-free samples under defined conditions, then quantify newly infected cells using reporter signals, immunostaining, plaque formation, or viral nucleic-acid measurements. In immunology and infection research, these assays help compare viral infectivity, evaluate antibody- or drug-mediated inhibition, and distinguish cell-to-cell from cell-free transmission. The results support analysis of host susceptibility, viral spread, and potential antiviral strategies.
