Compensation Of Employees

Compensation of employees is the total remuneration workers receive from employers for labor performed during an accounting period, making it a key measure of household income and labor’s role in the economy. In macroeconomic accounting, it includes wages and salaries paid in cash or kind, together with employers’ social contributions such as pension and health insurance payments, whether provided directly or through social security systems. National statistical agencies use this measure to calculate income-based GDP, assess labor’s share of national income, analyze wage growth and productivity, and evaluate how employment conditions influence household consumption and economic inequality.
