Laparoscopic Guidance

Laparoscopic guidance is the use of real-time visual and navigational information to direct minimally invasive surgery through small abdominal incisions. A laparoscope transmits images from inside the body to a monitor, allowing clinicians to identify anatomical structures and coordinate instruments inserted through trocars while maintaining spatial orientation. Guidance may incorporate camera positioning, instrument tracking, surgical landmarks, and imaging data to support accurate dissection, tissue handling, and device placement. In medicine, these methods can improve procedural control, reduce the need for large incisions, and support safer operations in areas such as general, gynecologic, and urologic surgery.

We describe here the use of a pH-sensitive green fluorescent protein variant, pHluorin, to study the spatio-temporal dynamics of axon guidance receptors trafficking at the cell surface. The pHluorin-tagged receptor is expressed both in cell culture and in vivo, using electroporation of the chick embryo.
