Rehabilitation Interventions

Rehabilitation interventions are structured clinical strategies that help people restore, maintain, or adapt physical, cognitive, communication, and daily-living abilities after injury, illness, surgery, or disability. They work by combining individualized assessment with repeated, goal-directed practice, education, and supportive technologies; graded activity can promote motor relearning and functional adaptation while addressing pain, weakness, balance, or participation barriers. In medicine, these interventions include physical, occupational, and speech-language therapies, as well as prosthetic or assistive-device training, and are used across neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, and chronic conditions. Effective rehabilitation can improve independence, quality of life, and return to work or community participation.

Soft Pneumatic Robot Modulates Graph Theory Metrics of Brain Network for Hand Rehabilitation After Stroke

2025

This study explores the effects of a configurable soft pneumatic robot on enhancing whole-brain network topology post-stroke. Graph theory analysis indicates significant improvements in clustering coefficient, path length, and global efficiency. Findings highlight the potential of programmable robotic protocols to modulate neuroplasticity and optimize functional recovery in stroke rehabilitation.

All animal procedures described here must be conducted in accordance with institutional animal ethics guidelines and approved by IACUC. All procedures must follow the principles of the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—and must be performed by trained personnel. Monitoring Animals for Signs of Pain and Distress Recognizing early signs of pain is essential for ethical animal research. Animals are routinely monitored using behavioral, physical, and physiological parameters that reflect...

Neuro-rehabilitation Approach for Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss

Cited by 10 •

2016

This article reports the development of a neuro-rehabilitation approach, "constraint-induced sound therapy (CIST)" for sudden sensorineural hearing loss. The aim of CIST is to prevent maladaptive cortical reorganization by using an enriched acoustic environment. CIST represents a safe, easy, inexpensive, and effective approach to treat sudden sensorineural hearing loss.
