Scleral Incision

A scleral incision is a deliberate surgical cut through the sclera, the tough outer coat of the eye, used to provide controlled access to internal ocular structures. Surgeons create the incision with specialized microsurgical instruments and manage its size, location, and depth to enter the eye while preserving tissue stability and minimizing fluid leakage. In ophthalmic procedures such as vitreoretinal surgery, scleral incisions allow instruments to reach the vitreous cavity for tasks including removing abnormal tissue or repairing retinal damage. Proper closure and healing are essential for maintaining ocular integrity, preventing complications, and supporting visual recovery.

We demonstrate the effect of scleral crosslinking with riboflavin and UVA on an axial elongation rabbit eye. Axial elongation was induced in 13 day-old New Zealand rabbits (male and female) by suturing their right eye eyelids (tarsorrhaphy).

Metacarpal Small Incision for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

2024

Carpal tunnel decompression with transverse carpal ligament transection is a very successful treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. The standard long-curved incision technique has become the best treatment for median nerve entrapment decompression. Here we introduce the metacarpal small incision carpal tunnel release (MSICTR) in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS).

Subretinal injection has been widely applied in preclinical studies of stem cell replacement therapy for age-related macular degeneration. In this visualized article, we describe a less risky, reproducible and precisely modified subretinal injection technique via the trans-scleral approach to deliver cells into rat eyes.

Whole Mount Preparation of Mouse Intestine: Using a Simple Gut-incising Device to Prepare Whole Mount

In this video, we demonstrate whole mount preparation of the mouse intestine using a simple gut-incising device. The resulting mounts are of superior and uniform quality and can be used for histological analyses.

Ye's Swing Technique for Small-incision Lenticule Extraction Surgery

We introduced an optimized surgical approach for small incision lenticule extraction, termed the Ye's Swing Technique. This technique enables the surgeon to perform lenticule separation and extraction more easily while minimizing the risk of incision-edge tears and lenticule fragmentation. The results of this study proved its safety and efficacy.
