Surgical Guide Plate

A surgical guide plate is a rigid, precisely positioned device that directs surgical instruments or implanted components to a defined anatomical target, supporting accurate and reproducible procedures in neuroscience. Fixed to the skull or an experimental apparatus, it uses predetermined coordinates, openings, or channels to constrain the instrument’s entry point and trajectory while limiting movement during surgery. Researchers use guide plates to place electrodes, cannulas, optical fibers, or other devices for neural recording, stimulation, drug delivery, and imaging studies. By improving targeting consistency and protecting surrounding tissue, this method strengthens experimental reliability and enables longitudinal investigations of brain structure and function.

Surgical Technique for the Implantation of a Biomimetic Artificial Intervertebral Disc in a Goat Animal Model

2025

This study presents a novel surgical technique for implanting a biomimetic artificial intervertebral disc (BioAID). The method ensures precise placement and stability, aiming to restore cervical spine function using a goat model. This technique shows promise for clinical application in both human and canine patients suffering from cervical spine myelopathy.

Terahertz Microfluidic Sensing Using a Parallel-plate Waveguide Sensor

The procedure for implementing a refractive index sensor for terahertz frequencies based on a grooved parallel-plate waveguide geometry is described here. The method yields a measurement of the refractive index of a small volume of liquid through monitoring of the shift in the resonant frequency of the waveguide...

A Rat Tibial Growth Plate Injury Model to Characterize Repair Mechanisms and Evaluate Growth Plate Regeneration Strategies

The growth plate is a cartilaginous region in children's long bones where longitudinal growth occurs. When injured, bony tissue can form and impair growth. We describe a rat model of growth plate injury that leads to bony repair tissue, allowing the study of repair mechanisms and growth plate regeneration strategies.
