Anhedonia

Anhedonia is a reduced ability to experience pleasure or interest in activities that a person previously found rewarding, making it an important symptom in psychology and mental health research. It can involve diminished anticipation of positive experiences, reduced enjoyment during them, or less motivation to pursue them, reflecting disruptions in reward processing and related cognitive and emotional systems. Anhedonia commonly occurs in depression and may also appear in schizophrenia, substance use disorders, and other conditions. Assessing its distinct components helps researchers study disease mechanisms, evaluate treatment outcomes, and develop interventions targeting motivation, reward sensitivity, and functional recovery.
