労働市場の需要のシフトは、賃金率以外の要因により、雇用主が雇用したい労働者の総数が各賃金レベルで変化したときに発生します。これらの変化は、企業の生産物の価格の変化や生産における技術の進歩など、賃金自体以外の要因によって引き起こされます。労働需要がシフトすると、需要曲線全体が右または左にシフトします。右へのシフトは、雇用主が各賃金レベルでより多くの労働者を雇用する意思があることを意味します。逆に、左へのシフトは、雇用主が各賃金レベルでより少ない労働者を希望していることを示します。

労働需要のシフトに影響を与える重要な要因の 1 つは、労働によって生産される製品の価格です。企業が同一の製品を均一な価格で販売する競争市場では、労働の限界生産力 (VMP_L) の価値は、労働の限界生産力に製品の市場価格を掛けて計算されます。製品価格の上昇は、VMP_L を直接上昇させます。

各企業の労働需要は、雇用される労働者の量が異なれば労働の限界生産力の価値を反映します。したがって、VMP_L が高ければ、企業は賃金率に関係なく労働者を追加雇用する意思を持つことになります。その結果、この市場におけるすべての企業の労働需要が増加し、労働需要曲線が右にシフトします。

逆に、消費者の嗜好の変化により製品の価格が下がれば、VMP_L も下がります。したがって、企業は賃金率に関係なく雇用する労働者の数を減らすことになります。労働者数の減少により、すべての企業が労働需要を減らし、労働市場の需要曲線が左にシフトします。

労働に対する市場の需要曲線は下降傾向にあります。それは労働の限界生産物の価値を反映しています。

製品の価格が変わると、労働に対する市場の需要曲線がシフトします。

1種類の浄水器が多数の企業から同じ価格で販売されている架空の市場を考えてみましょう。ここでは、消費者はきれいな飲料水の健康上の利点にますます気づき始めています。これにより、浄水器の需要が増加し、製品価格が高くなる可能性があります。

価格の上昇は、労働の限界生産物またはVMP_Lの価値が大きくなることを意味します。これは、VMP_Lが労働の限界積に浄水器の価格を掛けたものであるためです。

追加の労働者がより大きな収益を得るのに役立つため、労働者を雇うと収益性が高まります。

そのため、浄水器を製造するすべての企業による労働需要が増加し、労働に対する市場の需要曲線が右にシフトします。

浄水器の価格が下がれば、企業の労働需要は減少する。これにより、労働に対する市場の需要曲線は左にシフトします。
