個人の労働供給曲線は、賃金率の変動に応じて供給される労働の量がどのように変化するかを示しています。

賃金が上昇すると、賃金は働かないことによって得られる収入を表すため、余暇の機会費用が増加します。これにより、レジャーは商品やサービスに比べて比較的高価になり、個人はレジャーの選択肢を減らし、より多く働くようになります。この行動は、賃金の上昇が労働者に余暇を労働に置き換えるインセンティブを与える代替効果を反映しています。

言い換えれば、代替効果は、賃金が上がるにつれて個人がより多く働くことを奨励し、一般的に労働供給曲線を上向きに傾斜させます。

しかし、個人が必ずしももっと働くことを選ぶとは限りません。
