後期への移行中、タンパク質Cdc20はAPC/Cに結合して活性化します。活性化されたAPC/Cは、調節タンパク質であるS-サイクリンおよびM-サイクリンをユビキチン化し、それによってプロテアソーム分解を標的とします。

サイクリン分解は、ほとんどのCdkの活性を阻害します。サイクリン依存性キナーゼ活性がないため、ホスファターゼは細胞内のほとんどのCdk基質を脱リン酸化することができ、これは後期の完了に必要です。
