Isochoric and Isobaric Processes

一定体積で発生する熱力学的過程は、等圧過程と呼ばれます。
密閉された生態系内で発生する蒸発を考えてみましょう。水蒸気が容器から逃げないため、体積は一定に保たれ、プロセスは等圧化されます。
一定量では、システムによる作業は行われません。さて、熱力学の第一法則を適用すると、システムに加えられる熱は内部エネルギーの変化に等しくなります。
pVダイアグラムでは、このプロセスは圧力軸に平行な垂直線で表されます。
一定の圧力で発生する熱力学的プロセスは、等圧プロセスです。川から水が蒸発すると、水蒸気が逃げます。ただし、システム上の大気圧は一定のままであるため、このプロセスは等圧です。
ここでは、行われた作業は圧力と体積変化の積に等しくなります。したがって、システムに加えられた熱は、システムの内部エネルギーを増加させ、作業を実行するために利用されます。
等圧プロセスのpV図は、体積軸に平行な水平線です。

1000 g の水を一定の体積で摂氏 40 度から摂氏 70 度に加熱するとします。 プロセスは等積性であるため、系によって行われる仕事はゼロです。 系に加えられる熱は、水の質量、温度変化、比熱の積です。 温度変化が 30 K、水の比熱が 4184 J/kg.K であるため、系に追加される熱は 125.52 kJ と推定されます。

Thermodynamic processes can happen at constant volume or at constant pressure. An isochoric process is a constant-volume process. In this case, the volume does not change, so the work done by the system is zero. The first law of thermodynamics still applies, so any heat added or removed changes the internal energy of the system only.

A simple example is heating 1000 g of water from 40 degrees celsius to 70 degrees celsius at constant volume. Because the process is isochoric, no work is done by the system. The heat added is found from mass, temperature change, and the specific heat of water. With a 30 K temperature change and a specific heat of 4184 J/kg.K, the heat added is estimated to be 125.52 kJ.

An isobaric process is a constant-pressure process. Here, the heat added to the system is used both to increase internal energy and to do work. The work done in this process equals pressure times the change in volume. If the volume expands, the system does positive work on the surroundings. If the volume contracts, work is done on the system and the work is negative.

Boiling water into steam in an open container is an example of an isobaric process because atmospheric pressure stays constant. On a pV diagram, an isochoric process appears as a straight line parallel to the pressure axis. An isobaric process appears as a straight line parallel to the volume axis.
