呼吸能力とは、吸い込んだり吐いたりできる空気の最大量を指し、一般的にはリットルで測定されます。
まず、吸気容量またはICとは、全力で吸い込む最大の空気を指します。これは、潮汐量と吸気予備量を加算して計算されます。通常のIC値の範囲は2.4〜3.6リットルです。

Lung capacity measures show how much air the respiratory system can move and hold during different parts of breathing. These measures help describe lung function in a more complete way. They are useful for understanding how the lungs work during inhaling and exhaling.

Inspiratory capacity, or IC, is the maximum amount of air that can be inhaled with full effort. It is found by adding tidal volume and inspiratory reserve volume. IC usually ranges from 2.4 to 3.6 liters.

Functional residual capacity, or FRC, is the air left in the lungs after a normal exhalation. It is calculated from expiratory reserve volume and residual volume. FRC typically ranges from 2.6 to 3.2 liters. This capacity helps maintain gas exchange between breaths, keeps a baseline oxygen level in the lungs, and provides a buffer for efficient breathing.

Vital capacity, or VC, measures the maximum air a person can exhale forcefully after a full inhalation. It is an important sign of lung function and respiratory muscle strength. VC is the sum of tidal volume, inspiratory reserve volume, and expiratory reserve volume, and it usually ranges from 4 to 5 liters.

Total lung capacity, or TLC, is the maximum volume of air the lungs can hold. It includes tidal volume, expiratory reserve volume, inspiratory reserve volume, and residual volume. TLC normally ranges from 6 to 7 liters and gives a broad view of lung size and gas exchange capacity.
