Transcription

転写とは、DNAテンプレートからRNAを合成するプロセスです。
テンプレートDNA上では、転写開始前複合体が遺伝子のコアプロモーターの周りに集まります。プロモーターには、TATAボックスとイニシエータ配列が含まれます。一般的な転写因子はTATAボックスで結合しますが、イニシエータ配列には転写開始部位が含まれます。
必要な成分が結合すると、開始前複合体は、転写開始部位の上流のDNAの短いストレッチを巻き戻します。その後、一般的な転写因子が鎖から解離し、RNAポリメラーゼが新しいmRNA鎖を産生し始めます。
ヌクレオチドを1つずつ添加し、mRNAの合成は、チミジンがウリジンに置き換わることを除いて、テンプレート鎖から読み取られて、5プライムから3プライムの方向に行われます。
この新しく作成されたmRNA鎖は、コード鎖の情報のコピーを表しています。合成は、終了配列が検出されるまで続けられ、これにより新しく作られたmRNAが放出されます。
