明晰夢は、個人が夢の中で自分が夢を見ていることに気づくという、独特な意識状態です。この気づきにより、夢の環境を意識的に操作することができます。スティーブン・ラバージなどの研究者は、明晰夢の理解に大きく貢献し、これらの夢を見ている間、自己認識や思考評価に関わる前頭前野などの脳の特定の領域が活発に活動することを明らかにしました。
