Treatment strategies for psychological disorders fall under three broad approaches - psychological, biological, and sociocultural.

The psychological approach is employed by clinical psychologists who combine science and theory to prevent and treat psychological disorders using psychotherapy.

Psychotherapy is a non-medical approach that helps individuals recognize and address their psychological issues.

It is practiced by clinical psychologists, counselors, and social workers.

The biological approach views psychological disorders similarly to physical diseases that require targeted treatments, often involving medication, electrical stimulation techniques, and brain surgery.

It is administered by medical doctors, with psychiatrists specializing in the field.

While both psychologists and psychiatrists can provide psychotherapy, only psychiatrists can typically prescribe medication.

Lastly, the sociocultural approach focuses on understanding how individual relationships, societal roles, and cultural factors influence a person's mental health.

It is practiced by trained psychotherapists, psychiatric social workers, and paraprofessionals who are trained to offer certain services without formal mental health qualifications.
