Robotic Port Placement

Robotic port placement is the strategic positioning of access ports through the body wall to support robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery, allowing a camera and specialized instruments to reach the operative field. Surgeons select port sites according to the target anatomy, working space, instrument reach, and required triangulation, then insert trocars and dock the robotic system to enable controlled instrument movement. Proper placement can improve visualization, reduce instrument collision, and facilitate precise dissection and suturing. In medicine, this planning step supports procedures across multiple surgical specialties and may influence operative efficiency, ergonomics, and patient recovery.
