The Central Dogma

유전자 코드는 중복됩니다.

진핵생물에서는 20개의 아미노산으로 단백질이 생성됩니다. 4개의 뉴클레오티드를 3개 세트로 결합하면 64(43)개의 가능한 코돈이 제공됩니다. 이는 하나 이상의 코돈이 개별 아미노산을 코딩할 수 있음을 의미합니다. 따라서 유전자 코드는 중복되거나 퇴화되었다고 합니다. 항상 그런 것은 아니지만 종종 동일한 아미노산을 지정하는 코돈은 삼중항의 세 번째 뉴클레오티드에서만 다릅니다. 예를 들어, GUU, GUC, GUA 및 GUG 코돈은 모두 아미노산 발린을 나타냅니다. 그러나 AUG는 아미노산 메티오닌을 나타내는 유일한 코돈입니다.
