Adolescents from ethnic minority backgrounds face unique challenges in forming their identities. As they mature, they often become keenly aware of how the majority culture views their ethnic minority group, which can significantly influence their self-identity.
Many adolescents experience biculturalism, identifying both with their ethnic minority group and the broader majority culture.
Successfully integrating these aspects of identity often correlates with better academic performance and emotional well-being. This integration can help reduce cultural conflicts and identity confusion, which might otherwise lead to emotional distress.

Sexual and gender minority youth often encounter significant social challenges, including bullying.
Developing a positive view of sexual orientation or gender minority, along with receiving support from family, school, and the community, can contribute to healthier emotional outcomes for these individuals.
