Nonlinear Eeg Features

Nonlinear EEG features are quantitative measures that describe complex, irregular, and time-dependent patterns in electroencephalography signals, extending analysis beyond conventional amplitude and frequency metrics. They characterize signal dynamics by evaluating properties such as entropy, fractal structure, recurrence, and sensitivity to initial conditions, often using reconstructed phase spaces or time-series relationships. In bioengineering, these features support seizure detection, sleep and cognitive-state assessment, neurological disorder characterization, and brain-computer interface development. By capturing changes in neural complexity and synchrony, nonlinear analysis can improve signal classification and contribute to more sensitive biomarkers for monitoring brain function.

Nonlinear Pharmacokinetics: Causes of Nonlinearity

2025

Nonlinearity in drug pharmacokinetics is caused by various factors influencing how a drug is absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and excreted. Understanding these nonlinear processes is crucial for predicting drug behavior in the body and optimizing drug dosing regimens. Nonlinear drug absorption can occur when the process is rate-limited by solubility, carrier-mediated transport systems, or saturation of the presystemic gut wall or hepatic metabolism. For instance, high doses of riboflavin...

Electro-encephalography (EEG)

2023

EEG is a non-invasive technique that can measure brain activity. The neural activity generates electrical signals that are recorded by EEG electrodes placed on the scalp. When an individual is engaged in performing a cognitive task, brain activity changes and these changes can be recorded on the EEG graph. Therefore, it is a powerful tool for cognitive scientist aiming to better understand the neural correlates associated with different aspects of cognition, which will ultimately help them...

Saturable and reverse saturable scattering were discovered in isolated plasmonic particles and adopted as a novel non-bleaching contrast method in super-resolution microscopy. Here the experimental procedures of detecting and extracting nonlinear scattering are explained in detail, as well as how to enhance resolution with the aid of saturated excitation microscopy.

2016

Non-restraining EEG radiotelemetry is a valuable methodological approach to record in vivo long-term electroencephalograms from freely moving rodents. This detailed protocol describes stereotaxic epidural and deep intracerebral electrode placement in different brain regions in order to obtain reliable recordings of CNS rhythmicity and CNS related behavioral stages.
