Streptavidin Patterning

Streptavidin patterning is a bioengineering method for arranging biomolecules or cells in defined spatial patterns on a surface. It relies on the exceptionally strong, selective interaction between streptavidin and biotin: streptavidin is immobilized or localized in chosen regions, then captures biotinylated proteins, nucleic acids, polymers, or cells. Pattern geometry can be produced through photolithography, microcontact printing, or other surface-patterning methods, creating controlled biochemical and physical cues. These engineered interfaces support studies of cell adhesion, signaling, tissue organization, biosensing, and biomaterials, while enabling precise control over ligand density and location in regenerative medicine and synthetic biology.
