Paleobiology Database

The Paleobiology Database is a global, scientific database that compiles information about fossils, past biodiversity, and the geological context in which specimens were found. Researchers contribute standardized records describing fossil taxa, geographic locations, geological ages, collections, and references, allowing the data to be searched, compared, and analyzed computationally. In biology, the database supports studies of evolution, extinction, diversification, biogeography, and changes in biodiversity through deep time. By linking fossil occurrences with stratigraphic and geographic information, it helps researchers evaluate how organisms and ecosystems responded to environmental change and provides a shared foundation for reproducible paleobiological research.

2026

Effective research begins with the ability to navigate academic databases efficiently. Unlike general web search engines, scholarly databases are designed to index peer-reviewed articles, conference proceedings, and other credible academic publications. Developing a structured search strategy ensures that researchers can identify relevant, high-quality sources with precision. For example, when studying how sleep patterns relate to circadian rhythms in humans, researchers should move beyond...
