Curie Temperature Optimization

Curie temperature optimization is the deliberate adjustment of a material’s Curie temperature, the point at which a ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic substance loses long-range magnetic order and becomes paramagnetic. This transition occurs when thermal energy overcomes exchange interactions between magnetic moments, so composition, crystal structure, particle size, defects, and chemical substitution can influence the temperature at which it occurs. In chemistry and materials research, scientists tune these factors through synthesis and controlled heat treatment to balance magnetic performance with thermal stability. Optimized Curie temperatures support the design of magnetic sensors, data-storage materials, spintronic components, and temperature-responsive devices.

Sphingolipids are bioactive metabolites with well-established roles in human disease. Characterizing alterations in tissues with mass-spectrometry can reveal roles in disease etiology or identify therapeutic targets. However, the OCT-compound used for cryopreservation in biorepositories interferes with mass-spectrometry. We outline methods to analyze sphingolipids in human tissues embedded in OCT with LC-ESI-MS/MS.

Chemical Kinetics The reaction rate is the speed at which a chemical reaction occurs. The reaction rate is defined as the change in concentration of a component in the reaction with time. The speed of a reaction depends on several factors, including the concentration of reactants and the temperature at which the reaction is performed. Each reactant contributes to the speed of the reaction by a specific factor. This relationship is defined by the reaction rate law. Rate Law The rate law is an...

Source: Smaa Koraym at Johns Hopkins University, MD, USA Temperature Dependent Decomposition of Hydrogen PeroxideExpand We suggest that students work in pairs for this experiment. Equipment controls may vary. In this lab, you'll perform a decomposition reaction where a single compound breaks down into two or more simpler products. You will observe the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. This decomposition happens very slowly, so you will use iron (III) nitrate as a...
