Hypothermia Blankets

Hypothermia blankets are temperature-management devices used to lower and control a patient’s core body temperature when reducing metabolic demand or treating elevated temperature is clinically indicated. They typically circulate cooled fluid through a blanket placed against the skin, transferring heat from the body by conduction; integrated temperature monitoring can guide adjustment of the cooling rate and target temperature. In clinical care, these systems support controlled therapeutic hypothermia, fever management, and temperature control during selected procedures or critical illness. Careful monitoring helps clinicians limit complications such as shivering, skin injury, and excessive cooling while maintaining the intended physiological effect.

Microbial sulfate reduction is a process of great importance in environmental biotechnology. The success of the sulfidogenic reactors depends among other factors on the microbial composition of the sludge. Here, we present a protocol to develop sulfidogenic sludge from hydrothermal vents sediments in a UASB reactor for reductive dechlorination purposes.

Short-Duration Hypothermia Induction in Rats using Models for Studies examining Clinical Relevance and Mechanisms

This article describes two methods of whole-body short-duration hypothermia induction in rats. The first, rapid induction method, employs active cooling using fans and ethanol spray for a rapid decrease in temperature. The second method is a gradual cooling method. This is achieved using the combination of isoflurane anesthesia and the reduction of temperature settings on the homeothermic heat mat. This results in a gradual decrease in core body temperature without the use of any external...
