Reverse Auctions

Reverse auctions are competitive procurement processes in which sellers bid against one another by lowering their prices to win a buyer’s contract. Typically conducted through an online platform, the buyer defines requirements and evaluation rules, suppliers submit bids during a set period, and the declining-price mechanism creates real-time price competition. In marketing, organizations may use reverse auctions to source advertising production, promotional materials, media services, or agency support while comparing qualified suppliers. The approach can improve price transparency, increase purchasing efficiency, and reduce costs, although effective outcomes depend on clear specifications, supplier participation, and evaluation criteria that consider quality as well as price.
