Exposure Response Prevention

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) is a structured behavioral therapy that helps people reduce obsessive-compulsive and anxiety-related symptoms by facing feared thoughts, situations, or sensations without performing compulsions or other safety behaviors. During treatment, exposures are introduced gradually and repeatedly, while response prevention interrupts the usual cycle of anxiety followed by ritual or avoidance, allowing new learning about distress and perceived threat. ERP is a first-line psychological treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder and can support recovery in related anxiety conditions. Its principles also inform clinical assessment, treatment planning, and research on how learning and behavior shape mental health outcomes.

Pharmacokinetic–Pharmacodynamic Relationship: Exposure, Response and Effect

2026

The pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PK-PD) relationship describes the intricate link between drug exposure, efficacy, and toxicity, forming the foundation for optimal dosing regimens. This relationship uses mathematical modeling to characterize drug concentration-effect dynamics, ensuring precise therapeutic outcomes.Exposure represents the pharmacokinetic aspect of the PK-PD relationship, denoting the drug amount that elicits a biological response. It is typically quantified by administered...

Measuring the impacts of environmental contaminants on fish behavior is often subjective and challenging particularly when dealing with sublethal endpoints. We describe methods including video technology to quantify swimming behavior of early life stage white sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus) during and after 96 hr acute exposures to various concentrations of copper.

Developing a Salivary Antibody Multiplex Immunoassay to Measure Human Exposure to Environmental Pathogens

In the current climate of scarce resources, new technologies are emerging that allow researchers to conduct studies cheaper, faster and with more precision. Here we describe the development of a bead-based salivary antibody multiplex immunoassay to measure human exposure to multiple environmental pathogens simultaneously.

Cancer Prevention

Several factors can increase the risk of cancer in an individual. About 50% of cancer cases can be prevented by adopting a healthy lifestyle, regular exercise, eating healthy, and following a modest cancer prevention diet. Epidemiological studies have consistently shown that populations with vegetable and fruit-rich diets have reduced the incidence of cancer. On the other hand, populations who have a diet rich in animal fat, red meat, junk food, or high calories are predisposed to cancer. Some...
