Laparoscopic Trocar

Laparoscopic trocars are specialized surgical devices that create access ports through the abdominal wall for minimally invasive procedures. Each typically combines a hollow cannula with an obturator, which penetrates the wall and leaves a protected channel for a camera or instruments. During laparoscopy, surgeons establish pneumoperitoneum, usually with carbon dioxide, to expand the abdominal cavity; trocars then maintain instrument access while helping limit incision size and tissue disruption. Their design, placement, and safety features are central to visualization, instrument control, and reducing access-related complications in laparoscopic surgery across gynecologic, general, and urologic medicine.

Cited by 12 •

2016

In early gastric cancer, the aim of surgery is to precisely remove the distal stomach including the primary tumor. To do this, accurate localization of the tumor is crucial, especially in totally laparoscopic surgery. This protocol describes a procedure for intraoperative gastroscopy in totally laparoscopic subtotal gastrectomy.
