Microwave Ablation

Microwave ablation is a minimally invasive technique that destroys targeted tissue by converting electromagnetic energy into heat, making it valuable for treating selected tumors and other abnormal growths. During the procedure, an antenna delivers microwave energy into the target, causing rapid molecular rotation and frictional heating that produces coagulative necrosis within a defined treatment zone. Clinicians can perform ablation percutaneously, often with ultrasound or computed tomography guidance, while monitoring the surrounding anatomy. In medicine, the method supports local treatment of tumors in organs such as the liver, lung, kidney, and bone, offering a focused alternative or complement to surgery and systemic therapies.
