Touch Dome Morphology

Touch dome morphology describes the structural organization of specialized epidermal areas that support fine touch sensation and reveal how skin interacts with the nervous system. These dome-shaped regions contain clusters of Merkel cells among modified keratinocytes, together with nearby sensory nerve endings; mechanical deformation activates mechanosensitive pathways, including Piezo2-dependent signaling, and converts pressure into neural impulses. In medicine, examining touch dome morphology helps clarify cutaneous mechanosensation, skin innervation, and changes associated with peripheral neuropathy, injury, or disease. It also provides a framework for studying sensory regeneration and evaluating how altered epidermal structure may affect tactile function.

Intravital Two-Photon Imaging of Touch Sensory Axon Morphology in Mouse Skin

2025

This study presents an in vivo two-photon imaging approach for visualizing the structures of low-threshold mechanoreceptor (LTMR) axon terminals in the forepaw skin of mice. Using repeated, high-resolution imaging of individual axons, this method provides a new platform for studying the structure and function of the cutaneous sensory circuit during development and in adults.

Responses to Gravity and Touch

Gravitropism: Plant Responses to Gravity Higher plants sense gravity using statocytes, cells found near the vascular tissue in shoots, and in the root cap columella in roots. Statocytes contain starch-filled organelles called statoliths. The statoliths settle, or sediment, at the bottom of the statocyte in the direction of gravity. Statolith sedimentation triggers a signaling cascade, resulting in the asymmetrical distribution of the plant hormone auxin across root and shoot tips. This...

Bacterial and archaeal cells exhibit remarkable diversity in shape and structure, critical in their adaptability and functionality. Among bacteria, the most commonly observed shapes include cocci and bacilli. Cocci are spherical and may exist singly or in groupings such as pairs (diplococci), chains (streptococci), clusters (staphylococci), or tetrads. Bacilli, in contrast, are rod-shaped and can also occur as single cells, in pairs, or chains, depending on their environmental and genetic...

Laparoscopic Pancreatoduodenectomy for Pancreatic Cancer Using In-Situ No-Touch Isolation Technique

No-Touch isolation procedures might prevent the dissemination of cancer cells from the primary tumor. However, these techniques are not widely accepted in laparoscopic pancreatoduodenectomy (LPD) by now. We herein present in-situ No-Touch isolation LPD with partial resection and reconstruction of the superior mesenteric vein (SMV) for pancreatic cancer after neoadjuvant therapy.
