Wiskundige weergave van de vraagcurve

Demand curves can be represented mathematically. This helps to quantify the law of demand and predict how consumers will react to price changes.

Generally, a linear demand curve is represented as Q_D= a - bP.

Here Q_D is the quantity demanded, P is the price, 'a' is the horizontal intercept, and 'b' represents the slope of the demand curve.

The negative sign indicates the inverse relationship between price and the quantity demanded.

Consider a café owner's potato demand. This can be represented by the equation Q_D = 200 - 50P.

Economists often flip the equation to make price the function of the quantity.

This rearrangement helps in understanding how changes in quantity demanded impact price.

When the price per unit hits $4, the café owner refrains from purchasing.

This threshold point, marking the vertical intercept on the demand curve, is termed the demand choke price. It identifies a product's highest price, helping in pricing strategies.

It's essential to note that real-world demand curves are more complex and non-linear.
