The three approaches to calculating GDP are the expenditure, income, and product approaches.
The expenditure approach is the most commonly used method. It calculates GDP by summing the expenditures made by final purchasers of goods and services.
It is used to identify the purchases made by households, businesses, governments, and the rest of the world, or the foreign sector.
While the expenditure approach focuses on spending, the income approach focuses on earnings. The income approach adds up the incomes earned from the production of goods and services.
It is used to examine the purchasing power of households and the financial status of businesses.
Lastly, the product approach measures GDP by focusing on the contributions made by each industry, such as agriculture, healthcare, and education.
Together, these approaches provide a comprehensive understanding of a nation’s economic activity.
