Corporate Social Responsibility, or CSR, is a company’s commitment to conduct business ethically, contribute to economic growth, and improve the lives of employees, their families, and the broader community.
CSR aims to balance value creation for shareholders with a positive impact on society and the environment.
CSR activities include fair labor practices, community development, environmental protection, and transparent reporting of business impact.
A useful model for understanding CSR is the Triple Bottom Line, which emphasizes three core areas, People, Planet, and Profit.
The People aspect focuses on employee well-being, fair labor practices, and positive contributions to communities.
The Planet dimension addresses environmental responsibility, such as conserving energy and protecting natural resources.
The Profit component ensures that companies remain financially sustainable while acting responsibly toward society and the environment.
When a company aligns its goals with the Triple Bottom Line, it creates long-term value for all stakeholders, including customers, employees, investors, and the wider public.
