Kinetic Energy

- [Instructeur] Kinetische energie is het vermogen van elk bewegend lichaam om arbeid te verrichten of verandering te bewerkstelligen. In biologische systemen bewegen voorwerpen op verschillende manieren, zoals kleine lichtdeeltjes die voedsel maken, een dier dat naar zijn volgende maaltijd rent, of moleculen die wegzweven om een nabijgelegen roofdier aan te trekken.

Kinetische energie is het vermogen van een bewegend object om werk te verrichten of verandering teweeg te brengen. Het kan verschillende vormen aannemen. Water dat door een waterval stroomt, heeft bijvoorbeeld kinetische energie. In biologische systemen reizen lichtdeeltjes (fotonen) en worden ze door planten geabsorbeerd om chemische energie te genereren. Dieren verbruiken deze chemische energie en produceren moleculen die geur dragen, die zich via de lucht verspreiden. Daarnaast genereren ze kinetische energie wanneer ze vluchten voor roofdieren. Hele systemen kunnen ook kinetische energie bezitten, zoals in het zonnestelsel, waar de beweging van planeten en sterren optreedt.

<h4>Kinetische energie</h4>

Kinetische energie is de energie die een bewegend object bezit. Terwijl water achter een dam bijvoorbeeld potentiële energie heeft, heeft stromend water in een waterval kinetische energie. Wanneer het water de bodem van de waterval bereikt en tot stilstand komt, wordt de kinetische energie opnieuw omgezet in potentiële energie.

In biologische systemen kan kinetische energie verschillende vormen aannemen, afhankelijk van de manier waarop objecten bewegen. Fotonen – lichtdeeltjes die door planten worden geabsorbeerd om te groeien en voedsel te produceren – bewegen zich bijvoorbeeld met hoge snelheid, veranderen van vorm en worden gebruikt om werk te verrichten, zoals de productie van chemische energie in de vorm van koolhydraten.

Daarnaast zorgt kinetische energie ervoor dat moleculen die de geur van dieren dragen, zich door de lucht verspreiden, waardoor een roofdier in de buurt wordt aangetrokken. Wanneer dieren planten consumeren, zetten ze de daarin opgeslagen chemische energie om in kinetische energie, waardoor ze kunnen rennen om aan roofdieren te ontsnappen.

Kinetische energie kan ook van het ene object naar het andere worden doorgegeven. Een persoon die pool speelt, kan bijvoorbeeld een speelbal raken, en de kinetische energie die aan de bal wordt doorgegeven, brengt vervolgens een andere bal in beweging. Hele systemen kunnen eveneens kinetische energie bezitten. De beweging van planeten en sterren in het zonnestelsel is een voorbeeld van kinetische energie op astronomische schaal.

Kinetic energy is the energy of motion. It appears when an object is moving and can do work or cause change. A waterfall is one clear example. Water behind a dam has potential energy, but when it rushes downward, that moving water has kinetic energy.

When the water reaches the bottom and stops moving, its energy can become potential energy again. Kinetic energy also shows up in living systems. Plants absorb light particles, called photons, which move very fast and help create chemical energy in the form of carbohydrates. In this way, motion can be converted into another useful energy form.

Animals also depend on kinetic energy in different ways. Molecules that carry scent move through the air and can attract a nearby predator. Animals then use the chemical energy they get from plants to run away, which is another example of motion-based energy. Kinetic energy can also move from one object to another, such as when a cue ball hits another ball in pool and sets it in motion.

Even large systems can have kinetic energy. The movement of planets and stars in the solar system is one example. This makes kinetic energy important in nature, in biology, and in every kind of moving system.
